Gravity™ was designed with the intention to create a single chair that could accommodate both relaxation and productivity. Its four angles allow postures ranging from kneeling to fully reclined. You can use it as a kneeling chair when leaning forward and shift your weight slightly backwards for an upright position, placing your feet on either the floor or shin cushions for variation. To assume a reclined position, gently push away from the ground and lean all the way back until your legs are elevated above your heart. In this levitation-like position, the chair gently rocks in response to the rhythm of your breathing and allows you to relax into weightlessness. The space between the headrest and tilted backrest provides freedom of movement for the arms and shoulders. The headrest itself can be moved up or down to fit your needs.
Gravity™ is available in a natural or black finish and a wide range of upholstery fabrics and colors. The wooden runners are made from layers of beech and ash veneer.

Gravity is made from top quality beech plywood from European forests. The plywood is treated through an iterative molding process where several veneer layers are combined and glued. Through the application of combined heat and pressure, the layers are given their characteristic shape, making our Gravity stand out from the crowd. All wooden parts are flexible and strong, ensuring a sitting experience that is never static. For a beautiful finish, our plywood is covered with ash top veneer, manually sanded and coated with water-based, non-toxic lacquers.

Peter Opsvik (1939 – 2024) was a Norwegian industrial designer, and stands as one of the most influential figures in ergonomic design. Throughout his career, much of which was spent as a freelance industrial designer, Opsvik shaped the way we think about comfort and functionality. Opsvik’s philosophy and design approach are integral to the Varier identity, and we continue to maintain a close collaboration with his team, working with one commitment – to reimagine the way we sit.
The Gravity Balans is a unique chaise-lounger & rocking chair that can also rock forward into a kneeling position making it easy to hop in and out of. It’s my favorite place to read as the gentle rocking keeps your body alert and active so you never stay in one position for too long and lose circulation.
Quite expensive so you should absolutely take good care of it. To mine I bought velvet pillow cases and cut them to fit over the upholstery, stool seat covers over the kneeling pads, hand cut contact paper to change the plywood into an expensive looking walnut, and most importantly strapped extra cushioning onto the headrest as the base headrest does get uncomfortable during long periods of use.
There are plenty of other zero-gravity chaise loungers for far cheaper. But the ones I’ve tried were either too bulky/ heavy, hard to get out of once you’ve settled in, or look like camping/ lawn
