Social® is a dynamic dining chair that brings fresh life to the table by allowing you to move intuitively in every situation. Designed by Snøhetta for Varier, Social® is intended for use in the ever-changing dining space where needs and usages shift throughout the day.
Social® is available in two product variants, Social® Tilt and Social® Turn, with each their own unique features and use cases. The chairs are designed to be mixed and matched to fit individual needs.
Social® Tilt has a curved base that allows you to tilt forward and lean back. The chair is designed for long-term comfort and is perfect for those who do work or other focus-related activities at the dining or kitchen table. Is also suitable for outdoor use.
Social® Turn brings you closer to those around you thanks to its unique swivel feature. Social® Turn is an ideal choice for those looking for a shell chair with premium comfort and design aesthetics.
The chair is made from post-consumer recycled polypropylene reinforced with glass fiber and is available in six colorways – Onyx Black, Winter White, Cream, Blue, Green, and Red. Social® can be complemented with an upholstered seat cushion for added comfort.

Unlike other molded shell chairs, which usually come on a wood or metal base, the base of Social® is fully molded. Each molded part contains 55-75% post-consumer polypropylene (PP). The recycled PP comes mainly from European household waste, discarded film and other plastic-based materials. The molding process works by mixing recycled PP and glass fiber into a large injection molding machine that creates mold under high pressure. A special gas-blowing technology makes a hollow core in the mold, significantly reducing material use while upholding strength and durability.
Social® is lightweight and easy to move around, thanks to its hollow but sturdy base. To achieve extra durability, both the shell and base have been reinforced with glass fiber. The shell’s tactile, velvet-like texture prevents sliding when you sit while making the chair easier to grab when you wish to move it.

The studio’s adaptable approach to design and sensitivity toward context has resulted in global reach and critical acclaim. The Social® project started with a diverse team from Snøhetta researching the dynamics of future homes and exploring their needs for increased flexibility. Complementing these insights with our expertise in ergonomics and Social® began to take form.
