Utilizing unspecified spaces
Today professionals’ houses used to be divided into rooms with specified functions. Today, life at home is becoming increasingly fluid. We find ourselves streaming series in the kitchen, eating in bed, and working in the living room. This behavioral shift places new demands on our homes and requires us to rethink how we furnish them.
As we enter an era where an increasing number of us work from our homes, we will be faced with improving our professional home’s working conditions, which we can do in one of several ways. One option is to prepare a dedicated workplace for specialized office furniture. Alternatively, we can furnish our professional homes with dynamic, active sitting furniture that suits the combined demands of both leisure and work.
The body’s natural needs remain the same, whether you are eating dinner or preparing a presentation for your next meeting. Reaching for a second serving by the dining table constitutes the same movement as reaching for the phone by your desk. When leaning back to stretch after enjoying a well-prepared meal, you perform the same movement as when leaning back to answer an incoming call.
By designing our furniture (namely ergonomic kneeling chairs) with active seating and movement, we desire that our products inject a bit of balance into everyday life – for both your mind and your body, at the office and in our professional home.
Read on as we explore a selection of our most versatile chairs.
The Variable Balans Monochrome Series
In Aarhus, Denmark, photographer Marianne Jacobsen often works on the Variable Balans Monochrome by her dining table. Pictured here in the Oxide colorway from the Monochrome Series. The Variable Balans kneeling chair is a beautiful addition to her harmonious space.
Pattern designer Silvia Stella Osella has a dedicated workspace corner in her airy living room. The Variable Balans kneeling chair in natural wood, upholstered in Revive from Kvadrat, fits perfectly. Adding the optional backrest provides even more flexibility, opening up for a wider range of active sitting positions.
Finding balance in the everyday norm can be difficult. Finding balance while seated, on the other hand, does not need to be. In Alessandra’s home in Milan, The Variable Balans in Stone from the Monochrome Series matches her bright blue walls.

Move™
Per Øie, 1985
The Move posture stool is the perfect companion for the height-adjustable desk or engaging in activity seating where freedom of movement is essential. Designed by Per Øie in 1984, Move is the chair/stool in the Varier collection, which allows for the widest range of movement. With its convex wooden base, a rounded seat, and a height-adjustable gas lift, this desk stool prompts you to actively find and keep your balance while still providing you with the safety and support you need to remain comfortable.
The Move stool’s wooden base is made from beech plywood, covered with an ash top veneer, manually sanded, and coated with water-based, non-toxic lacquers for a beautiful finish. The gas lift is German-made, empowered by high-pressured gas, making the height-adjustable mechanism smooth and reliable. A soft sculpted foam seat with three identical sides adds to this desk stool’s ease of use.
In Franziska’s home in Germany, The Move posture stool is more than just an office chair. Its lightweight properties make it easy to move around to wherever the family may need it. Move frequents both the kitchen counter and her son’s rooms.
One for you and one for me. The Move posture stool works great as an additional chair, either in the professional home office or in the living room when having guests over. Pictured here in Antonia’s home in Munich.
The Move activity stool is highly customizable. Choose between four different gas lifts, differentiated by height and needed adjustment pressure, 2-seat sizes, and 2 base sizes – and create the chair that best suits your individual and professional home or office needs.
